Get to Know Coach Jesse
Coach Jesse first picked up a volleyball at the age of 15, and has yet to set it back down. He played all throughout high school, mainly as an Outside Hitter. While indoor was always his favorite, he also loved playing grass, sand and even Wallyball (it’s a real thing). Immediately following high school, he began coaching as well. During his 20 years tenure, he was the head coach of girls and boys teams ranging from 13’s Club to High School Varsity. His passion for the sport drives his desire to develop more young athletes to shared his love of the sport.
Jesse’s coaching style can be summarized in 2 steps. The first is instruction and demonstration. He believes it is more important for the players to understand the “why” behind what they are being taught, rather than just doing what they are told. This includes encouraging players to ask many questions. Secondly, is development those skills through situational drills. That means designing practice plans which incorporate conditioning while developing their skills. It is critical that players get as many repetitions as possible through game style situations (rather than only drills) to understand the speed of the game. This method has been very successful for his teams over the years to increase players skills, and love of the game.
